Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann 15

Question On Everyones Mind: Whats Next?

Word was starting to get around that episode 15 of Gurren was every sense of the word “Epic”, I thought to myself “After what happened in episode 8, what could POSSIBLY be more epic?” Episode 15 was kind enough to show me.

Let me first start off by saying that Simon has evolved more in 15 episodes then most characters do in an entire series, looking back at the first episode to now, its easy to see how Kamina effected his belief in himself and others. The little boy who once whimpered in fear as soon as trouble presented himself is no more, now stands the proud leader of the Gurren Brigade, because, hey… who the hell do you think he is? He’s Simon the driller.

This episode blew me away, I havent had this kind of feeling in the pit of my stomach in a while, that sense of true satisfaction with an episode. An episode so good that you don’t feel they could have made it any better in any possible way, besides adding nonstop fan service (but I kid). This episode raised the bar yet again in terms of what to expect from Tengen, I have to admit that after watching 8… I had my doubts, I won’t say what happened because I don’t want to ruin everything, but the people whove seen it knows what im talking about. But watching episode 8 I constantly felt like screaming “What are you doing?! YOURE GOING TO RUIN THE SERIES!!!” and the following episodes didn’t make me feel any better. Finally the dudes down at Gianax gave me something to believe in again, they gave me a hug and a pat on the back and whispered in my ear “…its all going to be ok” and I believe them.

With that aside, lets talk about the episode. I have no other word to describe it then just say… Wow. The animation was amazing, every scene was eye candy and the fight scenes were just mindblowingly well done. I was totally engrossed in the entire episode from start to finish, and they did the right thing not running the OP for this episode, gave more time for the actual episode and made it feel like it was going to be awesome, which it was. Studios like to do that, when the episodes going to change the entire season they’ll just say “We don’t need an OP for this one, this episode is going to be way too awesome for an OP”. That aside, this episode really helped move the story along. They’ve been fighting nonstop to get to this moment, coming face to face with the Spiral King himself. The very awesome Spiral King, I might add.

With all this said and done, what can we expect now? What meaning do the Spiral Kings last words hold? Will Viral keep trying to take Simon down? Where does that Grandpa dude keep coming from? Will we be able to see Yokos bewbs again? So many questions, I guess well have to wait for episode 17 to see. I say that because episode 16 is going to be a rehash episode, god I hate those… For those of you not watching Tengen, whats wrong with you? Tengen is hands down one of the best animes released this year, if not just one of the best animes in a long time.

Look forward to my “Zero no Tsukaima 2nd Season, Episode 1” review, coming out later today (most likley)
